Water Inrush Treatment in TBM Tunneling for Shanxi Major Water Network's Central Yellow River Diversion Project

During the double-shield TBM tunneling construction of Lot III in Shanxi's Central Yellow River Diversion Project, executed by Italy's C.M.C. Ravenna, a critical water inrush incident occurred in September 2017 when encountering a water-rich sandstone formation with well-developed fissures. The face and front shield experienced massive water inflows reaching 400-500 m³/h, completely halting tunneling progress.

The project team successfully implemented Ruinuo waterproofing materials with supporting grouting technologies, including face drilling grouting and advanced borehole grouting. These measures effectively controlled the water inflow, enabling TBM advancement while ensuring quality segment installation.
